The natural world is an inspiration and it’s representation in any and all art types is a delight. Being able to draw or paint that which one has a passion for is a privilege in this country.
One is spoilt for choice in the variety of plants and the diverse floral kingdoms of South Africa.
Sadly, many of our species are threatened by urbanisation, agriculture, and now, climate change. This, together with an interest in art in general and the need to feel grounded in the environment, has encouraged interest in botanical art.
A student of the botanical art genre at this stage, rather than a full time botanical artist, and a keen interest in our more endangered species in South Africa, is a small way to contribute to our natural history record.
