Friday April 9 – Friday July 9 2010
The Margaret Flockton Award is named in honour of Margaret Flockton (1861 – 1953), the first botanical illustrator at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney. There are almost 1,000 images in the Gardens’ Illustration Archive attributed to Margaret Flockton, and these are still referred to and reproduced for plant taxonomy and identification today. The Botanic Gardens Trust recognises the historical and scientific value of this body of work and the Friends of The Royal Botanic Gardens, with the support of Maple-Brown Family, have sponsored an award to honour her contribution to scientific botanical illustration.
This year we have had entries from all over the globe (AUS, NZ, UK, MEX, BRA, USA, POL, SPA) and the artworks are of a very high standard. Judging has been completed and the winning and highly commended works will be publicly announced on opening night.
The exhibition will be open for public viewing Friday April 9 – Friday July 9.
2010 will be the seventh year the award has run and it strengthens in quality and popularity every year. It is named after the first illustrator of the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney, Margaret Flockton.
1st prize - $5000
2nd prize - $2000
Plus three Highly Commended awards are presented.
